What is totalitarian architecture?

The art and architecture of the 1930s in Italy, Germany and the USSR are usually compared and considered as a unique product of the totalitarian
time.
Indeed, in the 1930s, Rome, Berlin and Moscow were gripped by a βconstruction feverβ: the Palace of the Soviets in Moscow, the Littorio Palace in Rome and the Volkshalle in Berlin were created, it would seem, with the sole purpose of outdoing each other in the architectural competition that unfolded before the war. But do these ambitious plans form a single style of βtotalitarian architectureβ? Or were they different stylistic trends in the service of totalitarian regimes?
Architect Andrei Barkhin will talk about stylistic parallels in world architecture of the 1930s in a special lecture.
