Ana Ventura “Mudar”
13.00 €
Packing up and leaving can be a challenge, especially for those who leave out of necessity, like the man at the heart of “Mudar” by Ana Ventura, a visual narrative about what is lost and what can be gained when the only option is to head into the unknown.
Description
“Mudar” reflects my personal experience of leaving Portugal and moving to Belgium. The idea for the story came to me one autumn afternoon, while walking through the city park in Antwerp. I picked up a leaf from the ground and thought: “It’s changing color, it’s adapting to a new reality.” To represent this change, I used two colors: yellow and blue.
Mudar tells the story of someone who, for one reason or another, decides to leave, to venture into an unknown territory in search of a better life. Leaving one’s comfort zone, choosing what to take and what to leave behind, facing uncertainty, the excitement of the journey, the reactions of those who stay and those who receive us, all these are part of a complex process of adaptation.
This book is a metaphor for our world today, where we all, whether for adventure, work, religion, war, love, family, or curiosity: travel, move, change, and mingle across the globe. The illustrations were inspired by places, homes, shops, plants, friends, and family I’ve encountered along the way.
